Amongst other things, so many things this weekend, but amidst them all there's this: We're all hanging out on the sidewalk, fun birthday adventures, and we see this woman walking past, amazing outfit, alone. We spoke, bantered, exchanged names, she says, "Elizabeth? Oh that's one of my favorite names. When I was a little girl I had an imaginary friend I named Elizabeth Underwood, she was so great, strong, an artist, brave, would do all the things I wanted to do ..."
Have you ever had to pick your jaw up from the sidewalk upon which it has fallen?
And her name? Rebeccah Crow, really. If you know me you know.
So the weekend its music celebrations sorrows and sparkles, the waffle party yesterday I was so glad it wasn't just me who found those droll people a bit droll and I have this to say:
I'd rather have fleeting rapid illusions of intimacy with transient strangers than to buy into her notions of friendship. Don't need it, the abuse, inconsistencies, drama, the assumptions, and I certainly don't need to be used as a joy-ride novelty circus freak pal who will always give you a good time. Not that I'm not a joy-ride carnival adventure ride but hey! I'm a home-body too.
