Letterman's eulogy show for Johnny Carson last night was some of the most moving television I've ever seen. Plus it was the classiest & truest nod to Mr. Carson of them all - given Carson's long time affiliation w/Letterman & also the similarities between the two as true masters of the genre. Of course I say this as a great fan of Johnny's - the Tonight Show was a big part of my formative night-time experiences - and Letterman is my Johnny.
I couldn't stop crying when Tommy Newsome and Ed Shaughnessy performed "Here's That Rainy Day" with Doc Severinsen & a full orchestra. And my heart filled up with champagne and floated out the window to hang from a star. And the rain's my heart's champagne tears falling down.
